Spellbook Overview

Spellbook launched the first GenAI tool for lawyers in 2022 and continues to be a leading provider of legal AI for transactional law. Spellbook is backed by investors including Khosla Ventures, Thomson Reuters Ventures, Inovia Capital, The Legaltech Fund, Bling Capital, and Moxxie Ventures.

Core Capabilities

  • Review – Flags redlines, aggressive terms, and missing clauses as you edit.

  • Draft – Writes new clauses or full sections on command, drawing from your preferred language.

  • Ask – Answers questions about the contract or relevant law, citing sources directly in Word.

  • Benchmarks – Compares agreements to thousands of market-standard terms and suggests fixes.

  • Playbooks – Captures your negotiation strategy so AI reviews and revises the way your GC would.

  • Associate (AI agent) – Handles large-scale diligence and multi-document workflows end-to-end.

  • Library – Searches your past work to keep drafting consistent with firm- or client-specific standards.

Technology, Security & Integrations

Spellbook runs on the world’s most advanced large language models, including GPT-5, under strict zero-data-retention, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, and CCPA compliance. The tool was built specially for transactional law and fully integrated with Microsoft Word.

Through its integration with Thomson Reuters Practical Law, Spellbook gives lawyers access to a vast library of attorney-curated precedents and model clauses—ready to customize, benchmark, and negotiate without ever leaving Word.

Growth & Adoption

Launched in September 2022 as the first generative AI tool for lawyers, Spellbook now serves legal teams in more than 80 countries, with customers including Nestlé, eBay, and Kennedys. The platform has processed over 10 million contracts and is on pace to triple revenue in 2025.

Funding & Investors

In October 2025, Spellbook raised a $50 million Series B led by Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures, with participation from Threshold Ventures and existing investors Inovia Capital, Bling Capital, Moxxie Ventures, and Path Ventures. The round valued the company at $350 million, bringing total funding to more than $80 million.
