Consultants/PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

Process Improvement

Process improvement consultants use structured methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, and legal project management frameworks to help law firms and legal departments evaluate existing workflows, identify sources of inefficiency and waste, and redesign processes to be faster, more consistent, and less costly to run. Typical engagements begin with mapping a current process step by step, often for a specific practice area or repeatable transaction type, to pinpoint bottlenecks, redundant approvals, and non-value-adding work before recommending a redesigned workflow. Mapping and optimizing a process before automating it is a common use case, since applying automation or new technology to a poorly designed workflow tends to simply speed up an inefficient process rather than fix it. Consultants in this space often combine process improvement with adjacent disciplines such as legal project management, pricing and alternative fee arrangement design, and broader organizational or operating model consulting, reflecting how process work rarely happens in isolation from the rest of a firm's or department's operations. Deliverables typically include process maps, root cause analyses, redesigned workflows, and training to help internal teams sustain the improvements after the engagement ends.
