Litera is no stranger to acquisitions. Indeed, it’s one of the most active legal tech companies in that regard, having acquired just shy of 20 companies since its founding in an effort to continually enhance its experience management capabilities.

Litera’s latest move came on Thursday with the announcement that it has acquired legal workflow provider Peppermint Technology, a Microsoft partner whose flagship offering, the CX365 platform, features a fully integrated suite of legal-specific applications built on Microsoft technology.

The strategic acquisition is aimed at significantly increasing the value law firms can extract from their Microsoft applications, “adding innovative marketing, business development, and case & matter management solutions to Litera’s suite of legal technology capabilities that manage the end-to-end legal experience,” according to the press release. Specifically beneficial will be CX365’s single solution for CRM, ERM, matter management, and case management, integrated with Microsoft 365.

“The combined offerings from Litera and Peppermint Technology will empower law firms to excel in client engagement and operational efficiency directly in the Microsoft tools they use every day,” Litera CEO Avaneesh Marwaha said in the release. “We are excited to both integrate Peppermint’s innovative solutions into our portfolio and partner with Microsoft, accelerating Litera’s mission to transform top-to-bottom the entire legal experience and give our clients efficiencies they did not imagine possible.”

Peppermint Technology CEO Gary Young emphasized the pivotal role the acquisition will play in the company’s ability to offer more benefit to clients and reach a broader sector of the market. “It is the right time in Peppermint’s growth journey to bring our businesses together, having similar cultures and ambition for our people, customers, and partners,” he said in the release.

Litera’s Recent Acquisitions

While Peppermint is Litera’s first acquisition in 2025, it follows close on the heels of the company’s most recent acquisition last year.

On November 27, 2024, Litera announced the acquisition of mass document drafting and editing platform Office & Dragons. Through the acquisition, Litera was able to augment its document capabilities with Office & Dragons’ automation and generative AI capabilities for streamlining document workflows. In turn, Office & Dragons could capitalize on Litera’s reach to better scale up its offerings and serve customers, making the combination a clear win-win for both companies.

Earlier in the year, Litera made a strategic move to boost its governance, risk, and compliance offerings by acquiring FileTrail on July 19, 2024. FileTrail’s fully integrated, enterprise software helps organizations automate compliance with internal policies, governmental regulations, and outside counsel guidelines (OCG), create custom policies and taxonomies per industry, and reduce risk through retention and disposition management to dramatically reduce costs.
