Legal tech has been making significant strides in transforming traditional, paper-based processes—and notarization is no exception. The latest development comes from Docusign, which officially launched Notary On-Demand on Wednesday.

Built on Docusign’s Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform, Notary On-Demand is a remote online notarization (RON) solution designed to modernize how businesses and legal professionals handle notarizations. The platform provides 24/7 access to a network of notaries recognized in all 50 U.S. states, aiming to eliminate in-person bottlenecks that often slow down legal workflows.

This launch comes as legal teams are under increasing pressure to accelerate transactions while maintaining robust security standards. Whether it's real estate closings, corporate agreements, or estate planning, Notary On-Demand is designed to simplify and secure notarizations across industries.

Key Features Designed for Legal Efficiency

Notary On-Demand integrates advanced technology to tackle two persistent challenges in legal notarizations: time delays and security risks.

  • 24/7 Nationwide Access: Legal teams can access certified notaries anytime, anywhere via secure audio and video technology. This capability is powered by Docusign’s partnership with OneNotary, an on-demand notarization provider.

  • Enhanced Security Measures: Leveraging Docusign ID Verification tools, the platform is designed to mitigate identity fraud—an issue that costs over 53% of organizations more than $1 million annually, according to recent Docusign research.

  • Versatile Document Support: Notary On-Demand handles a broad range of legal documents—including powers of attorney, affidavits, lien waivers, wills, and loan agreements—making it a flexible tool for law firms and corporate legal teams managing high volumes.

  • Comprehensive Audit Trails: Each notarization session includes full recordings and detailed audit trails to ensure legal compliance and transparency.

  • Seamless Workflow Integration: The platform integrates directly with Docusign eSignature workflows, allowing for smoother end-to-end document execution.

A Growing Field of Remote Notarization Solutions

The launch of Notary On-Demand adds to a growing and diverse landscape of remote notarization solutions tailored to the legal industry. Competitors like NotaryFix, Notarize, Legitify, eNotaryLog, and FoxNot have introduced platforms that simplify notarizations through secure video sessions, advanced ID verification processes, and flexible document management tools—each bringing unique strengths to meet varied legal needs.

Here's a look at some players in the remote notarization space:

The Legal Industry’s Growing Demand for Remote Solutions

The launch of Notary On-Demand reflects a broader trend in the legal industry: the demand for digital, secure, and efficient solutions. As corporate legal departments and law firms manage increasingly complex, multi-jurisdictional agreements, traditional notarization methods are proving outdated and cumbersome.

“By integrating Notary On-Demand into the Docusign Intelligent Agreement Management platform, organizations can reduce identity fraud and simplify agreements with an all-in-one trusted solution for notarization, ID verification, and witnessing,” Mangesh Bhandarkar, GVP Product Management at Docusign, said in the press release. "This solution makes it easier for organizations to scale notarization and identity verification capabilities instantly while providing their customers with superior experience."

For legal professionals handling high-value agreements—like loan closings, estate planning, and corporate transactions—Notary On-Demand offers a much-needed solution to reduce delays and administrative burdens.

What This Means for the Future of Legal Transactions

The launch of Notary On-Demand marks Docusign’s latest expansion into legal tools, following its acquisition of CLM provider Lexion. This reflects a broader trend of enterprise tech companies entering the legal sector, driven, in part, by demand for integrated platforms.

Notary On-Demand fits this shift by embedding remote notarization into existing eSignature processes, giving legal teams a smooth, secure option. While it modernizes a process long tied to paper and in-person meetings, it also highlights how enterprise tech will continue to redefine legal processes.
