Deposely Offers Free AI Deposition and Litigation Tools Through New ‘Essentials’ Program

When former Amazon and AWS engineer Mitchell Kossoris co-founded Deposely and started building an AI deposition assistant, he saw a notable difference between the enterprise and legal tech markets: free versions of software are common in the former, but not the latter.

“Coming from the tech world, we’re accustomed to having access to an array of free tools—something that feels almost unheard of in the legal profession. We wanted to bring that same spirit into the legal industry,” he told Legaltech Hub.

Now, Deposely is doing just that.

On Tuesday, the AI-powered deposition assistant platform announced the launch of a new program called Deposely Essentials. Through the program, Deposely will offer attorneys a suite of AI tools to support depositions and litigation—completely free, “no strings attached.”

Deposely Essentials is part of the company’s broader mission to empower the legal profession through smarter, faster, and more efficient deposition work. “In line with Deposely’s commitment to increasing equitable access to justice, the Essentials program offers all legal professionals full access to select AI-driven tools at no cost, with a focus on security, data control, and usability,” the press release stated.

"We believe that by offering powerful AI tools for free, we can help attorneys spend less time on tedious transcript reviews and more time on strategic casework,” Kossoris said in the release.

What’s Free in Deposely Essentials?

Deposely Essentials will ultimately comprise a suite of free AI-powered tools designed to support depositions and litigation.

The first free tool, available today as part of Deposely Essentials, is the AI Narrative Summary Generator, which creates clear, concise narratives of the most important details in a deposition transcript. It’s designed to allow attorneys to quickly get to the key facts and themes of a case, leaving more time for preparing briefs or court filings and determining case strategy.

In the next couple months, the free Deposely Essentials suite of AI tools will be expanded to include:

  • AI Page:Line Transcript Summaries: This tool will summarize key points in a transcript, complete with transcript page and line references for quick review.

  • AI Client Debrief Generator: This tool will generate customized summaries for clients to bolster communication and understanding.

  • AI Outline Review: This tool will analyze deposition outlines to ensure that attorneys have included all relevant topics.

  • AI Contradiction Detection: This tool will identify inconsistencies and contradictions in witness testimony to support cross-examination.

To ensure security, all tools offered as part of the Deposely Essentials program allow users to retain full control over all data, with no information input being shared, accessed, or trained on by third parties without express permission.

In speaking with Legaltech Hub, Kossoris said the idea for the free Essentials program came from noticing the lack of free software in legal tech. For example, many consumer technologies offer a free pricing tier that includes basic functionality, as opposed to simply a free trial for a limited time. The latter is more common in legal tech. “A lot of software is available for free for a certain amount of time, or while they're in an early release sort of phase. But our intention with this is to be indefinite—this is just a part of what we offer forever,” he said.

Kossoris sees offering a free version of Deposely’s tools as a valuable way to get users comfortable with using AI in general and realizing its value, as well becoming familiar with how Deposely can fit into litigation workflows. Deposely Essentials users will have a set number of free tokens that reset each month to use on depositions of their choice.

The capabilities offered through Deposely Essentials also give users a post-deposition glimpse into how Deposely’s core offering functions in real time, Kossoris explained to LTH. For example, while the free version can help users identify contradictions in testimony after a depostion has been taken, the core version of the product can join your deposition and flag contradicting testimony in real time as the deposition is ongoing.

Deposely’s Focus on A2J

One of Deposely’s core missions, Kossoris told LTH, is doing what they can to help improve A2J, and Deposely Essentials is a key part of achieving it.

"At Deposely, we also see this program as a way to promote greater access to justice. By reducing the time and cost burden of legal work, we’re enabling more attorneys, especially those in smaller firms and underserved communities, to take on cases they otherwise might not have had the capacity for,” Kossoris said in the release.

In addition to making tools free via the Essentials program, Deposely also intends to offer significantly decreased pricing on its core offerings to pro bono and legal aid organizations going forward. “For legal aid and organizations that provide low cost or free legal services, we will provide our services to them near cost,” he explained, estimating a likely discount between 60 and 70%.
