There’s a new name in legal AI.
On Wednesday, Stockholm-based AI platform Leya announced it has officially rebranded as Legora. Along with the name change and new website came the release of several new product features designed to increase efficiency and productivity across the platform, including agentic web research tools, a Microsoft Word add-in, and collaboration capabilities in the platform’s large-scale document analysis tool.
“Legora’s rebrand and new product enhancements mark a milestone in our evolution and reflect not only our growth but our unwavering commitment to deliver the world’s first truly collaborative AI for lawyers. As we enter this next chapter, we remain focused on innovating alongside our clients and providing AI-driven insights that give lawyers a decisive edge in an increasingly competitive market,” CEO and Founder Max Junestrand said in the press release.
Agentic Research and Product Enhancements
The Legora rebrand announcement included three significant new releases in the company’s legal AI platform.
The first is agentic web research capabilities. Legora now incorporates AI agents that can search the web for insights in response to user questions. Upon receiving a user query, Legora will craft optimized web searches, run them, and review all relevant sources to generate an answer.
The second new feature is an add-in that’s natively integrated with Microsoft Word. It allows users to interrogate the content of documents, apply company playbooks directly in Word, and have Legora edit documents in line with redlines and comments.
Finally, Legora is focusing on enhanced collaboration. Within its Tabular Review tool for large-scale document analysis, users can collaborate through features like real-time updates as well as parallel prompts and tagging. Legora also integrates with existing tech stacks, including document management systems like iManage and SharePoint.
Inside the Rebrand
The word “Legora” is Latin for “to bring things together.” According to a company LinkedIn post it signifies their “vision of creating the world’s first truly collaborative AI for exceptional lawyers” and its focus on “fostering seamless collaboration between human expertise and machine intelligence,”
Junestrand explained in a blog post on the new Legora website that he sees the name change as more than just a rebrand, but a reflection on the company’s astronomical growth since its founding in 2023: “This expansion demanded a brand that matched our ambition for boundless growth and an appreciation for our clients’ sophistication: enter Legora.”
Leya was founded in 2023 and originally operated out of a dedicated conference room at Sweden’s largest law firm, Mannheimer Swartling, for nine months prior to the company’s official commercial launch. After being accepted into Y Combinator, the company grew from a workforce of 10 to 60. Legora now has a presence in both Stockholm and London, and over 200 clients spread across more than 15 countries.
Legora has raised over $35 million to date, including a $25 million Series A round in July 2024.
